I've wanted to paint this painting for quite a while...About five years ago, A magazine wanted me to paint a grouping of oranges. I sent in a portfolio, and the art director called and asked to see some paintings of oranges. I said I didn't have any paintings of oranges, but I sent him apples instead, along with just about every fruit and vegetable imaginable...except oranges. I tried desperately to explain to him that if I can paint apples, I can paint oranges. He didn't agree, and even though he said he loved my apples, he hired a painter who had oranges in their portfolio. He added "It's apples and oranges" and even went so far as to say that overall he liked my work better. Well, that's the art world for you. I must admit that the oranges were more tricky to paint then I had expected, but I think overall I stand by my original comment. If you can paint apples, you can paint oranges.
So here is my shot at painting them both together, I guess I can stick this one in the portfolio in case that job ever comes up again...
