This is my favorite of all of the Minnies I have done with a dark background. It is probably just that I am getting used to something new and the more I practice it, the better I will get at it.
The background looks like it is painted with heavy black paint but it's not.
In reality it was painted in three layers. it is very dark brown but transparent and rich. The photo isn't doing that justice...
