Cantaloupe & Doritos, I mean Blueberries...

If you read the post below you know that I am somewhat struggling right now with making paintings that I know will sell, and making paintings that I want to make. People love to tell you "just paint what your heart tells you" or "you can't sell out". I love hearing that. It always comes from people who already have money. When rent is due and you don't have it. The first thing you think is, "What will sell!?" Then, something sells and for a while you can paint what you want again...
I was recently watching some old footage of  Bill Hicks destroying Jay Leno for doing a Doritos commercial.
Just a note - If you are offended easily, don't watch the clip.

I don't eat Doritos, they are garbage. I do make my own Popcorn though, in a pot, just a bit of oil, some butter and salt. None of the crap that goes into a Dorito... but I can tell you with no problem, that if the Dorito people call and ask me to design a bag, or paint a plate of Doritos, I would do it in a second. Call me a sell out, fine, call me anything you want, I'll be down in Key West at Captain Tony's having a beer on the Dorito people.

I made this cantaloupe painting as a way to try to mix a painting style I like with the dark backgrounds that other people seem to like. It is a bit more loose then my other work but I learned a few things by painting it which is my idea of a success.
I also painted two my way which I will be posting soon.
